Songscape: Green River, with BEBE " Make Me Light"

The Green River and Dinosaur National Monument received its own song and starring role in a music video. BEEBE, a dream-pop singer and multi-instrumentalist from New Hampshire, embarked on a weeklong float-trip on the Green River. Joined by actor Kelsey Gunn, and photographer/TikTok creative Becca Murray, the trio spent time on the river exploring and soaking in the inspiration for the creation of a new song and music video. The retreat is part of nonprofit Sustain Music & Nature’s Songscape program. Songscapes partner bands with public lands to create new music inspired by these landscapes. It’s an effort to generate new supporters for public lands and the issues that face them through the emotional power of music.

MAKE ME LIGHT  was inspired by the Green River, life blood of the Flaming Gorge Reservoir in Utah and Dinosaur National Monument. In this first ever river-focused Songscape, BEEBE rafted the Green River from Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area (US Forest Service), through the John Jarvie Ranch (Bureau of Land Management), down to Brown’s Park National Wildlife Refuge (US Fish & Wildlife Service). This is the same route explored by John Wesley Powell, and a favorite hiding area of outlaw Butch Cassidy. They concluded the retreat exploring the fossils and human history of Dinosaur National Monument (National Parks Service).

Liz Beebe spent eight years traveling the world as the co-lead singer of popular American roots band, Dustbowl Revival. Born of New England roots but shaped by her years in SoCal, Beebe is equal parts grounding and lifting in her music. Motivated by the power of collective consciousness and empathy, Beebe's emotionally-driven vocals can soothe your troubles or elevate your mood - coming through the speaker as a friend for all occasions.

The project was a collaborative effort involving partners from all over the country. Sustain coordinated BEEBE, the USFS, USFWS, BLM and the NPS to get the creative team out for their Songscape retreat in July 2021. Public lands face serious threats - privatization, underfunding, and climate change. This Songscape project uses a musical and visual introduction to our public lands to build critical public support for their continued protection. Make Me Light’s’ introspective lyrics and dreamy production will drive home the message that public lands, like those surrounding the Green River, are for all Americans to discover, take care of, and enjoy.

100% of Online sales of Make Me Light support Sustain and a special project by the Intermountain Natural History Association(Non-profit partner of Dinosaur National Monument) to update the roadside informational signs at Dinosaur National Monument to more accurately reflect the history and traditional use of these lands by Native Americans
